There are a lot of changes to KY Medicaid and changes to vision are included in that.  At this time, vision benefits under the three new Medicaid MCO's will be contracted out to other vision insurances.  Coventry Cares of KY will contract their vision benefits to Vision Service Plan (VSP).  Kentucky Spirit Health Plan will contract out their vision benefits to Opticare and Wellcare of KY will contract out their vision benefits to Avesis. 

At this time, Vision Care will be accepting Coventry Cares of KY (VSP) and Wellcare of KY (Avesis - Medicaid only plans).  We are undecided at this time regarding KY Spirit Health Plan as the vision plans are not comparable to the other two vision plans and offer dimenished benefits comparably.  We do know that KY Spirit Health Plan has advertised that they will cover contact lenses in addition to current vision benefits, however, we feel this has been misadvertised.  KY Spirit Health Plan (Opticare) will cover a very small portion towards contact lenses and this is in replacement of glasses.  We believe contact lenses are a great option for many patients, but this is true only when they are worn properly, not overworn and when there are current glasses available for backup.
